KUCHING, 8 November 2025 – The Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, today reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to the development of the new i-CATS University College campus during his keynote address at the institution's 27th Convocation Ceremony.
The Premier confirmed that construction of the 250-hectare campus near Kampung Trombol remains on schedule to commence in 2026, with a four-year development cycle targeting completion in 2030.
“This campus will become the most sophisticated university technology campus in this region, designed to equip our students with the latest technological advancements, directly supporting Sarawak's economic transformation under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he stated.
The new campus is planned to feature specialised facilities for advanced technology programmes, including digital infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and engineering innovation centres.
This development aligns with the State Government's initiative to provide fully-funded tertiary education for Sarawakian students at state-owned institutions, beginning in 2026.
He further reiterated the strategic synergy between these two initiatives ensure broad and equitable access to opportunity, while the new campus provides the world-class physical and technological environment where that talent can be honed to its fullest potential.
This dual approach is engineered to directly support Sarawak's ambitious transition from a resource-based economy to a high-value economy driven by technology and innovation, as outlined in the PCDS 2030.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of prominent figures including Sarawak's Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who concurrently serves as Pro-Chancellor of i-CATS University College; Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Abdul Aziz Husain; Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis; and Vice-Chancellor Professor Emeritus Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.
Held at the Hikmah Exchange Convention Centre, the ceremony gathered distinguished officials, academic staffs, and graduating students to celebrate the academic accomplishments of i-CATS University College's graduating cohort.
